Markus Wilhelm, Chief Executive Officer

Markus Wilhelm has more than 25 years of experience in the media industry, primarily with Bertelsmann AG and Time Warner. He was a long-serving CEO for publishing and direct marketing firms including Bookspan and Doubleday Direct, and during his tenure, Markus oversaw an international staff of thousands in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, China and Korea. He currently serves as a member of the Advisory Board at the UNC School of Public Health and as a board member of NC Clean Energy Technology Center.

Cathy Wilhelm, Co-Founder

Cathy Wilhelm’s passion for the environment combined with her 20 years of real estate experience provided her with the skills and knowledge needed to co-found a green construction company, Strata Construction, and Strata Solar, where she works as the Chief Administrative Officer. Prior to Strata, Cathy worked on projects in China involving cost-benefit analyses of soil erosion management controls for the Yellow River. She also worked as an econometrician, managing energy forecast modeling projects for the Canadian public utility Ontario Hydro.

Brian Herndon, General Counsel

Brian Herndon joined Strata Solar, LLC as general counsel in April 2015. In his former role as lead partner of Blanco Tackabery’s clean energy practice group, he and his team assisted Strata Solar in the development and financing of essentially all of its QFs and in many other matters. Brian’s law practice spans 30+ years, with substantial experience in tax credit finance, commercial real estate finance, structured finance, business organizations and mergers and acquisitions to name a few. While at Blanco, he and Blanco became the go-to firm for renewable energy developers with North Carolina projects. In addition to solar, Brian has represented developers of landfill gas-to-energy biomass and anaerobic digester (hog waste) projects.

Andrew Groff, Chief Financial Officer

Andrew spent the first seven years of his career at Ernst & Young serving clients primarily in the oil and gas and commodity trading space. From there, he went on to Stone Tower Capital, where he performed a variety of finance and accounting tasks. He subsequently worked at Covanta Energy and most recently served as the Senior Vice President and Controller for 8 years at LS Power, a developer and owner of conventional and renewable generation and transmission assets throughout the US. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Penn State University, and a Master’s degree in accounting from the University of Virginia. He is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive).

Jimmy Chuang, Chief Capital Markets Officer

Jimmy Chuang brings a dozen years of experience in the solar industry to Strata. In his position, he manages the company's capital raise and M&A activities, and helps identify and build relationships with banks and institutional investors. These efforts enhance the ways in which Strata can help consumers and businesses switch to cleaner energy at a lower cost. Throughout his career, Jimmy has executed various transactions for an aggregate value of $50 billion. Prior to joining Strata, he held senior executive positions at GCL, SolarCity, Fotowatio, and Brite Energy powered by Protection 1, and built and financed more than 2,000 megawatts or $6 billion, of North America residential, commercial and utility scale solar projects. Jimmy received a B.S. degree from UC Berkeley and was selected as a Bill Gates Scholar. 

Joshua Rogol, Chief Development Officer

Joshua Rogol has over 15 years experience in energy finance, project & technology development, and entrepreneurship. In his current role, he leads origination and development for stand-alone and solar-plus-storage projects across the U.S. Prior to Strata, Joshua led global sales and strategy for a leading energy storage technology manufacturer, developing the company's first utility scale project in Europe, microgrid facility in Nicaragua, and behind-the-meter C&I projects in the United States. Joshua graduated magna cum laude with his B.A from Tufts University, in International Relations and Economics, and completed additional studies at La Universidad de Playa Ancha in Valparaiso, Chile.

Henry Dziuba, Chief Commercial Officer

Before joining Strata, Henry was President and General Manager of SMA America where he redefined the route to market approach, was involved in the development of their hugely successful O&M strategy and led them back to the position of number one inverter supplier in all markets in 2014. Henry set up and managed SMA UK in 2011-12, pioneering their development of a utility-focused market strategy in what was primarily a residentially oriented market, which became the biggest single utility scale PV market in Europe in 2014 and 2015.

Bill Stark, Chief Administrative Officer

As CAO, Bill leads our Information Technology, Enterprise Systems, Human Resources, Recruiting, Travel, Facilities, Fleet, Security, and Administration teams. Prior to joining Strata, Bill founded Stark Energy LLC, a strategy and operations consultancy serving both domestic and international clients pursuing residential, commercial, industrial, or utility-scale solar investment, development, or distribution. Prior to Stark Energy, Bill led marketing or operations functions at several residential and light commercial solar start-ups funded by KPCB, Google Ventures, Edison International, and Duke Energy, including solar-as-a-service financing platforms Clean Power Finance and Sungevity.  

Will Clayton, Chief of Staff

Will owns the development and evolution of Strata’s long term strategy, manages strategic initiatives, and provides decision support for key issues. Will also serves as right-hand to the CEO, facilitating day-to-day business operations. Prior to Strata, Will worked for The Boston Consulting Group, where he advised clients on strategy development, market growth, and program management in the energy and consumer industries as well as the public sector. 

Gary Freeman, SVP of Operations & Maintenance

Gary Freeman has over 39 years of experience in the electric utility industry while working for Duke Energy Corporation and what is now Dominion Energy Corporation. Gary has served in numerous leadership roles including distribution and transmission operations, customer service, wholesale power trading and generation portfolio management. 

Nick Mshar, SVP of Field Operations

Nick has been an integral part of Strata Solar for over 10 years. After starting his career as a designer with Duda/Paine Architects in Durham, Nick joined Strata as a PV System Designer and Installation Manager. Since then, he’s held posts as Strata’s Director of Operations and Maintenance, VP of Quality and Commissioning and VP of Commercial and Industrial EPC. Nick holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of North Carolina and is an Instructor at Solar Energy International.
