Moorings Solar Farm produces approximately 9,000 MWh of electricity a year, which is the same amount of energy used by 696 average homes in North Carolina. The project required 24,276 solar panels and was completed in 2013 after 14 weeks.
The project provided over $250,000 in direct expenditures in Wayne County for wages, lodging, and supplies. The result was an increase in the property tax base of Wayne County of approximately $12 million, with no requirements for additional schools, sewers, roads, or other county services.
There are no emissions, noise, or traffic associated with the operation of the solar farm. Each year, the solar farm will offset approximately 4,833 tons of CO2, which is the same as reducing automobile travel by 8 million miles.
